STUDENT CRITERIA
The BBharts Conservatory seeks dedicated young artists who are ready to train seriously in all three disciplines of musical theatre: dance, voice, and acting.
We welcome:
-
Strong dancers who are eager to expand their skills, develop vocal awareness, and evolve into well-rounded performers.
-
Focused actors and vocalists who understand that musical theatre requires movement, coordination, and dance training—and that expanding their dance technique creates more professional opportunities.
Our ideal student is curious, disciplined, hardworking, and open-minded—ready to embrace a Conservatory experience that develops them into versatile, performance-ready artists.

AUDITION PROCESS
Section 1: Ballet Technique Class (All Applicants)
Held as a full group barre class. Faculty assess alignment, posture, musicality, rhythm, coordination, body awareness, focus, and professionalism. Ballet provides the technical foundation necessary for dance and musical theatre artists, and this class helps determine Conservatory placement levels.
Section 2: Callback Evaluations (Based on Areas of Interest - Tracks
After the ballet class, students may move on to the second part of the audition determined by the areas they selected in their application. Applicants may be called for one or multiple areas, depending on interests and demonstrated strengths.
Section 3: Student Interview
All applicants participate in a short, friendly interview. This allows faculty to understand the student’s goals, mindset, communication skills, and readiness for Conservatory training. We discuss motivation, academic balance, prior experience, and openness to discipline and artistry.
MUSICAL THEATER TRACK
ACTING AND MONOLOGUE
Held in an individual setting. Students must prepare one memorized monologue (60–90 seconds) using age-appropriate contemporary or classical material (no accents unless required by the text). We assess emotional connection, voice clarity and diction, physical presence, confidence and preparation, and the ability to take direction (may include a brief adjustment).
VOCAL AUDITION
Held in an individual setting. Students must prepare one song (60–90 seconds) in musical theatre, classical, or age-appropriate contemporary style. Songs may be performed a cappella or with an instrumental track (no vocals). We assess pitch accuracy, tone quality, breath control, musicality, and performance presence.
JAZZ PROGRESSIONS
Held in a group setting. Students will move through dynamic jazz progressions across the floor that showcase technique, rhythm, and expression.
DANCE TRACK
JAZZ PROGRESSIONS & COMBINATION
Held in a group setting. Students will move through dynamic jazz progressions across the floor that showcase technique, rhythm, and expression. This is followed by a short combination where we look for performance quality, confidence, and how well dancers connect movement with musicality.
VOCAL ENSEMBLE
As part of preparing dancers for musical theater productions, we evaluate their ability to carry a note and demonstrate a basic understanding of music. Candidates will participate in a brief group vocal exercise to assess pitch accuracy, range, and the ability to hold a note in an ensemble setting. No preparation is required.
